Biography

Matt is Managing Director of F.R. Owen & Associates. He began his professional career teaching after graduating from Appalachian State University in 1999. Matt was a high school math teacher and soccer coach for two years. In 2001 he made a career change to the financial services industry, leveraging his knowledge of the school system to focus exclusively on the 403(b) market with school districts throughout North Carolina. In 2012, his desire to offer his clients more comprehensive financial plans led him to join Daybright Financial under the firm F.R. Owen & Associates. After leaving Daybright in 2024, he continued to work with educators through the State Employees’ Credit Union of North Carolina as a Senior Financial Advisor. In 2026, upon Frank Owen’s decision to begin succession planning for retirement, Matt, being a natural choice to return to Daybright in a leadership role, returned and now serves as Managing Director of F.R. Owen & Associates.

Matt believes that middle America is drastically overlooked and underserved by the financial services industry. That belief has led him to working with schoolteachers for more than two decades. It fuels his ongoing desire to work with that segment of America that desperately needs trustworthy and reliable guidance from financial professionals
